To advance our profession, the Central Ohio Chapter offers scholarships annually to help qualified individuals attend special conferences or seminars.
Distribution of these scholarships within the various categories will vary in response to the applicant pool and available resources.
In 2008, Central Ohio is proud to announce an individual, a national and two Central Ohio scholarships to offer financial assistance to attend the 46th Annual International Conference on Fundraising in New Orleans, March 29 through April 1st, 2009, at the Ernest N. Morial Conference Center, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Additionally, the board has authorized additional scholarships to be presented to those persons showing need to attend the 2008 Central Ohio National Philanthropy Day event.
Other scholarships for support of additional professional gatherings throughout the year will be posted on the website.

For the Central Ohio National Philanthropy Day event
Award: The Central Ohio Chapter of AFP will award $50 to each of five (5) applicants showing interest and need.
Criteria: Applicants must be active members of the Central Ohio Chapter and validate financial need and interest. Awardees are responsible for funding the remainder of the Philanthropy Day event including the luncheon.
For the International Conference on Fundraising:
Individual award
The Barbara K. Brandt Award for Emerging Development Professionals
Award: The Barbara K. Brandt Fund at the Columbus Foundation will support one (1) scholarship consisting of one (1) registration $510 and $1000 in cash assistance to one (1) individual to help cover expenses at the conference.
Criteria: Applicants must be active members of the Central Ohio Chapter, work in fundraising for a nonprofit organization within the Chapter service area and be employed less than three (3) years in the field. Member must validate financial need.
The Central Ohio awards
The Hand Up Award for financial assistance
Award: The Central Ohio Chapter will offer two (2) scholarships consisting of two (2) registrations and $1000 cash assistance to two (2) individuals to help cover expenses at the conference.
Criteria: Applicants must be active members of the Central Ohio Chapter and be employed for three (3) years of more in the fundraising field. Letter must accompany application describing why financial assistance is needed, how belonging to AFP has helped in your career, what benefits you hope to derive and what impact on your career as a fundraising professional is expected from attending the International Conference.
The National award
The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy 2009 Chamberlain Scholarship
Award: The AFP Foundation, in partnership with the Central Ohio Chapter, will offer a limit of $1500 to one (1) individual to cover expenses at the International Conference.
Criteria: Applicants must be active members of the Central Ohio Chapter, never attended a previous International Conference as a registered participant, and work in a position of fundraising for a nonprofit organization. If applicant is an Executive Director, 50% or more time should be devoted to fundraising. Awardee must agree to complete and return to International Headquarters an Evaluation Form about his/her experiences at the International Conference.

Completed scholarship applications with resume, mission statement and letter of permission/endorsement from the applicant's Executive Director or Board President should be sent by email, fax or US mail to:

All scholarship recipients are expected to support the Chapter the following year by being a member of one of the Chapter committees, their choice:

Review will be on November 3, 2008
Recipients will be notified promptly after that and awardees will be publicly announced at National Philanthropy Day, November 25, 2008.
