Work Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The Columbus Council on World Affairs is a non-partisan, educational non-profit organization with a 45-year history of delivering high-quality education on cross-cultural understanding and current global affairs.

POSITION SUMMARY

The newly-created Communications Manager role will be responsible for developing, driving, and managing CCWA’s communications strategy.  The Communications Manager will create, package, and deploy CCWA’s messaging across all platforms and across all programs while ensuring meaningful engagement with CCWA’s key stakeholders.  Success in this role is measured by increased revenue generation over time via: a) consistent and compelling messaging, b) meaningful engagement with an ever-expanding fan base (eg, donors, clients, schools, enthusiasts, volunteers, etc), and c) increased awareness of CCWA among the general Columbus community.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Organization and Program Communications

Developing, managing, and implementing external communication strategies and tactics that reflect CCWA’s mission, values, brand, and priorities.
Promoting all CCWA programs, events to increase attendance, participation, sales.
Managing regular communications to Council audiences including the general public, donors, clients, parents and schools.
Develop and manage a robust social media strategy that creates a digital buzz (via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram).
Securing media coverage in print and digital venues locally and nationally.
Maintaining, updating, and writing for all assets (eg, print pieces, website).
Writing, editing, producing newsletters, feature stories, press releases, etc.
Design and execute strategy for promotional items (t-shirts, awards, gifts).
Serve as the primary liaison with CCWA’s external design firm.
Provide executive communications support including talking points, visuals, PowerPoints and a/v logistics.

Development Team Support

Assist in the development and deployment of fundraising strategies.
Support grants and proposal development and writing.
Manage fundraising event logistics.
Manage information in CCWA’s database, Network for Good.

Special Projects

Provide administrative support to CCWA’s Board of Directors including Board meeting preparation, materials, logistics.
Participate and attend various CCWA programs and events.
Manage other projects & duties as assigned by the Development Director.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
3-7 Years of experience of relevant work.
Demonstrated commitment to CCWA’s mission and values.

Writer: Mastery of the written word including compelling, concise, creative, and clear writing in addition to impeccable grammar.
Communicator: Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Organized: Detail-oriented, efficient, swift, consistent, and accurate.
Accountable: Accepts responsibility, sets limits, delivers results.
Prioritization: Effectively manages robust workloads, meets deadlines, and successfully prioritizes tasks.
Proficient in technology, quick learner, experience with website design and social media management.
Demonstrated ability to balance professional demands with personal needs to recharge.
