In his new book With Charity for All, Ken Stern pulls back the curtain on the 1.5 trillion dollar charity industry and reveals the lack of regulation, rampant corruption, and low benchmarks for success that plagues America’s charities. By shedding light on the overlooked cracks in the current system, Stern lays the groundwork for creating more effective charities that put Americans’ hard-earned donations to better use.

With Charity for All: Why Charities Are Failing and a Better Way to Give

 Open to the entire community

Vast and largely unexamined, the world of American charities accounts for 10% of economic activity in this country, yet operates with little accountability, no real barriers to entry, and a stunning lack of evidence of effectiveness. In this talk, Ken Stern reveals a problem hidden in plain sight and prescribes a whole new way for Americans to make a difference. By highlighting recent moves towards accountability and effectiveness in the charity industry, Stern shows us how we can better choose which charities to support, and lays out the path to a better charity system.

About Ken Stern

Ken Stern is the President and CEO of Palisades Media.  Prior to launching Palisades, Stern was the CEO of National Public Radio.  During his tenure, NPR’s radio audience more than doubled, from under 13 million weekly listeners to more than 26 million weekly listeners. Revenues during his nine years at NPR grew from $75 million to $210 million.

In 2013 Ken Stern’s book With Charity for All: Why Charities are Failing and a Better Way to Give was published by Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. His book discusses the problems in the not for profit charity sector, and appeals to donors for more evaluation and consideration in their decision making, in order to provide support for upcoming best of class charities, so that these organizations may survive and flourish in a sector controlled by large, traditional charities with less than optimal performance.
