We serve thousands of children and parents across the United States through various programs, including Foster Care, Outpatient Mental Health Services, Psychiatry, Intensive Home-Based Treatment, Bridges, Independent Living, Care Coordination, and Adoption.
Summary
We are seeking a Development Marketing and Communications Manager to build fundraising capacity through the creation and execution of successful development strategies. The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for achieving fundraising goals through the cultivation of new funding prospects, exploration of new fundraising ideas and opportunities, planning and implementation of events, and establishment of long-term relationships and partnerships with area corporations, foundations, individuals, and community leaders and organizations.
Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise all assigned employees (e.g., schedule and assign tasks; interview job applicants; recommend the hiring of job applicants; recommend discipline; recommend and adjust pay assignments; evaluate performance; receive and adjust grievances or employee complaints; approve and recommend the approval of leave requests; attend or participate in meetings in which policy questions are reviewed or discussed ; recommend policy changes; has access to other employees’ personnel files; has access to financial data used in monitoring department revenue/income, etc.).
- Maintain a professional level of administration as part of the management team by attending designated meetings, working collaboratively with other staff members as needed, and demonstrating support for agency initiatives.
- Cultivate partners and donors within the community.
- Successfully create and execute development plans, goals, and strategies.
- Develop and support the execution of a comprehensive marketing and public relations strategy.
- Set and achieve fundraising goals.
- Develop and grow a donor base of corporate, foundation, government, and individual funders and foster profitable, long-term relationships with donors.
- Develop and execute methods of approaching potential funders, including but not limited to individual and corporate supporters, as well as charitable trusts.
- Effectively communicate plans, strategies, tactics, and results to the CEO, staff, and board members as directed.
- Develop specific outcome-oriented programs for funding support in consultation with members of the management team.
- Develop and maintain a database for all development activities and donor information.
- Monitor revenue and expenses against budgets and targets.
- Prepare reports for both donors and management.
- Write and/or support the completion of compelling grant proposals to achieve revenue goals.
- Work with all forms of media and produce memorable materials, such as posters, website pages, brochures, newsletters, press releases, social media, and correspondence to promote awareness of the agency, forthcoming events, and the needs of the agency.
- Recruit, organize, and work with community volunteers, supporting them in their endeavors and recognizing their efforts.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, as needed, and work well with a wide diversity of individuals.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Schedule and attend supervision (frequency varies, minimum of one time per month).
- Attend all mandatory training required to satisfy company and licensure requirements (CEU’s, Agency-specific, COA required or required by clinical department).
Qualifications An example of acceptable qualifications (at least one of the following):
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study
- 5 or more years of work experience in sales, fundraising, event planning or marketing.
- Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state, regional, and local agencies, community leaders, and the general public.
- Ability to express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
- Ability to pass and maintain required background checks.
- Ability to connect donors to the mission, align fundraising goals with messaging and outreach, and align donor comms to mission impact stories, build trust with donors, and inspire to give.
- Ability to communicate the organization’s mission in many ways to reach a variety of stakeholders that inspire giving and involvement
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, and Training Hours
CFRE/ACFRE designation, preferred. Must also attend any other training which is required by UMCF including but not limited to orientation, cultural awareness, universal precautions, etc.
- Must maintain a current Ohio driver’s license and a safe driving record in accordance with the current insurance provider or be able to independently travel between UMCF offices to external meetings.
Computer Skills
- Strong computer skills in word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software are necessary, such as Word, Excel, Access, or others specified by the agency. Must be able to utilize the internet and email software, preferably Outlook.
Other
- Ability to travel to/from meetings throughout the day. Ability to work schedule required to fulfill the duties of the position. This may include days, nights, evenings, and/or weekends. At times, an individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.
