  • AFP Central Ohio Chapter Member Spotlight

December 19, 2025

For this month’s Member Spotlight, we spoke with Emily Paige Armbrecht, Development and Communications Manager at the Huckleberry House. During her interview, she told us a bit about herself and her experience with AFP.

Q: Tell us a little bit about you. Please provide 4-6 sentences about your life. This can be about your job, family, passions, etc.

After moving to Columbus for an AmeriCorps VISTA role with a local nonprofit, I found a passion for connecting nonprofit missions with the broader community. From there, I started pursuing a career in fundraising and am now in my fifth year in the field. I’ve loved being part of a community of go-getters, connectors, and builders who care deeply about their neighbors. Outside of work, I’m passionate about supporting small and local businesses, whether it’s a home décor boutique, a thrift store, or a mom-and-pop restaurant! I genuinely believe in the power of a dollar invested locally!

Q: Tell us your favorite ice cream flavor OR a hobby you have.

Cleveland-based Mitchell’s Ice Cream has a Caramel Fudge Brownie ice cream that is my all-time favorite! It features house-made caramel AND brownie chunks! YUM!

Q: How did you hear about AFP?

I first learned about AFP from a former supervisor, Carrie Burson. She emphasized the impact the organization had on her career; not just the resources and peer groups, but the strong sense of community and camaraderie that AFPCO provides. At risk of putting words in her mouth, she raved about having a network at her fingertips of people who understand the daily highs and lows of nonprofit and fundraising work. Her raving review motivated me to join.

Q: What are some benefits of being an AFP member that you feel are important for others?

Being a member for a couple of years now, I’ve gained so much insight. Through the mentorship program, where my mentor Bill Bartolini constantly impressed me with his wisdom and experience, and the Fundamentals of Fundraising course, which offered perspectives from professionals across the field, I’ve had countless opportunities to learn from experts. But what keeps me involved long past these learning opportunities is the incredible community AFPCO has cultivated! It’s easy to network with other members, and it’s always wonderful to see familiar faces at events, both at AFP and beyond!
