Inside The Columbus Foundation:  Donor Advised Funds

Colleen Mitchell, Senior Vice President Donor Services and Development, The Columbus Foundation

Steven Moore, Associate Director for Donor Services and Development, The Columbus Foundation

Over the past decade, donor advised funds offered by community foundations and commercial gift funds have become popular philanthropic tools for donors.  To this point, recent growth of Columbus Foundation’s assets is in large part a result of donors opening advised funds.  And, it is predicted that Fidelity Charitable, the donor advised fund vehicle for the brokerage firm, will soon become the nation’s largest nonprofit.  In this pre-session, participants will learn how donor advised funds operate and engage in a conversation to explore strategies for engaging donors with these funds.

In this session, Columbus Foundation staff will present the findings from its recent survey of local development professionals.  Learn what local professionals are saying about resources that are needed to lead a successful development effort, position tenure, salaries, challenges, skill proficiencies, and professional credentials and memberships.

In response to these findings, The Columbus Foundation will announce program opportunities to build the capacity of the development field.   Attendees will be encouraged to share their ideas to further strengthen the profession.
