Position Overview

The Advocacy Initiatives team collaborates with colleagues and leadership across the alumni association, Advancement, and the University to create opportunities to engage, activate, and steward current and potential advocates. The Advocacy Initiatives team serves constituents across campus and the community in support of the Advancement continuum.

Reporting to the Manager of Advocacy Initiatives, the Consultant, Advocacy Initiatives independently manages and is responsible for the development and implementation of engagement and experiences for advocates like students, volunteers, and alumni. They will directly manage and advise programs. Additionally, they will proactively identify and lead new development of advocacy cohorts and programming. In this role, partnership with colleagues across the alumni association, Advancement, and the University is expected. The consultant is expected to have fully developed industry knowledge and advanced understanding of concepts with strong communication skills; have the ability to respect confidentiality while handling sensitive information and successfully organize and manage and lead multiple priorities and projects of a complex and large scope. This position will require occasional evening and weekend work, as well as travel.

Engagement and Alumni Relations, Consultant will have strong verbal written, analytical, and organizational skills, extreme attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects simultaneously. They must demonstrated the ability to be flexible and creatively problem-solve when confronted with challenging circumstances.

Duties and Responsibilities

·       65% – Proactively plans and implements positive advocate experiences with the university by managing programs critical to the Advancement continuum and increasing advocacy. Achieves role-specific annual goals like revenue, constituent/donor engagement, retention, and advocacy. Manages daily tasks and projects as well as overall programming, marketing/communications, and advising. Works closely with the Associate Director of Loyalty and Advocacy Strategy to develop strategies to engage advocates. Prepares budgets and monitors expenses for advocate initiatives and events. Evaluates and continuously improves programs and experiences. Tracks data and prepares summaries of advocacy activity and accomplishments. Operates with a high degree of independence, decision-making capabilities, judgment, consistency, and relationship building. Will handle and prioritize multiple projects at once, continually exhibit strategic and analytical thinking, while demonstrating excellent customer service practices when working with partners.

·       30% – Partners with alumni association, Advancement, and the University colleagues to identify and develop new and enhanced advocate opportunities and involve them in implementation. Engage with, mobilize, and recognize volunteers who are involved with advocate programs.

·       5% – Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

·       Four (4) years of relevant experience.

·       Master’s degree or equivalent experience.

·       Six (6) years of relevant experience

·       Three (3) years of related work experience in student, donor, alumni, volunteer relations and/or related field.

·       Experience with and the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate

·       Experience with and the ability to demonstrate planning and implementing programs, events, and meetings
