Announcing the next selection for the AFP Central Ohio book club!
The next meeting of the AFP Central Ohio book club is coming up soon! Join us for a discussion with fellow fundraisers about books that inspire, educate, and encourage. Our next read will be: A New Era of Philanthropy, by Dimple Abichandani.
This book poses the question: “Can philanthropy be an anti-racist, feminist, relational, and joyful expression of solidarity?” Published in 2025 by a nationally recognized speaker and leader, it promises to provide present and hopeful guidance for fundraisers who want to see social justice play a more prominent role in traditional systems of wealth and philanthropy.
Registration is free, but space is limited, so please reserve your spot below.
FAQs:
Q: Do I need to buy the book?
A: You do not need to buy the book; you do not need to bring a copy to the group discussion. You can borrow it from a friend, share with a fellow fundraiser, or get a copy from your local library! If you would like to participate in the book club but are not able to access a copy of the book, please reach out to Natalie Dunn-Billings at [email protected].
Q: Can I still come if I don’t read the book?
A: If you don’t have a chance to finish the book before August 28th, you are still welcome to join us; however, you may miss out on some of the substance of the conversation and will definitely get some spoilers.
Q: What should I bring?
A: If you have a copy of the book and would like to reference it, feel free to bring it along. Otherwise, all you need is yourself and your favorite FLD (Fun Little Drink). There is a coffee shop on the main floor of the Main Library if you need to grab something before you chat.
Q: If I want to buy the book, where should I get it?
A: You can find a copy of A New Era of Philanthropy at your local bookstore, or if you prefer to shop online, you can get it on www.Bookshop.org – they give money back to local bookstores!
