Position Summary
The director of development leads all aspects of resource development for The Wellington School. Critical aspects of the role include leading a donor-centered approach to annual, restricted, and planned giving; planning and executing donor events that cultivate, solicit, steward, and celebrate donors and stakeholders; and nurturing and engaging our alumni. The director of development builds lasting relationships with donors and keeps them informed on how their generosity helps advance our mission, while also engaging staff, faculty, and volunteers. The director of development reports to the chief experience officer in a deliberately de-siloed team shaped around sharing Wellington’s story and vision. The director of development is a crucial member of the administrative team working closely with the directors of marketing & communications and admissions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the chief experience officer to set annual fundraising goals and budgets according to short- and long-term goals
  • Supervise and support the development team
  • Recruit, engage, and support volunteers for the Wellington Annual Fund Committee
  • Work closely with the chief experience officer and alumni and donor experience coordinator to recruit, engage, and support the Wellington Alumni Advisory Board
  • Work closely with the resource committee of the board of trustees to ensure that the annual development plan and long-term goals are in alignment with the school’s vision, growth, and strategic plan
  • Manage annual fundraising calendar and strategy to achieve measurable goals
  • Develop and execute solicitation and stewardship strategies for assigned major donors ($2,000+)
  • Draft and write solicitation letters, pledge acknowledgements, and development office communications
  • Provide regular content for publications, social media, and newsletters
  • Track and report metrics for donor participation, retention, and average gift value to the chief experience officer and resource committee
  • Work with the experience team to coordinate established development events and initiate future events; attend school-wide events and assist in planning and execution as needed
  • Lead the development team through a recurring process of researching potential sources of grant funding and applying, when applicable
  • Oversee the fundraising process and maintain records of receipts and disbursements of funds
  • Support daily operations of the school in terms of schedule and administrative support as needed

Executive Director of Development (College of Medicine)

Position Overview

The Executive Director will manage a fundraising team with the goal of helping The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) and The Ohio State University College of Medicine through philanthropy for research, patient care, and education. The expectation for the Medical Advancement program is to continuously grow our annual fundraising activity, with baseline activity at a minimum of $100M per year.  They will manage a team of development officers and a team of Alumni Engagement professionals to lead our efforts in alumni and grateful patient pipeline development for OSUWMC and the College of Medicine. The Executive Director will work with the AVP to help ensure alignment of the development strategies with the following partners – stewardship, annual giving, grateful patient program, The Ohio State University Alumni Association (OSUAA), and administration – to maximize fundraising for OSUWMC and the College of Medicine.

This role is responsible for understanding the mission, needs and value proposition of the Wexner Medical Center and the College of Medicine in order to strategically engage and gain support from a variety of constituent groups including individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations. They will simultaneously be responsible for working with  leadership/physicians/ researchers (faculty) in the OSUWMC and the College of Medicine. The Executive Director is a connector between donors and faculty and will be responsible for setting the example for staff on best practices for building strong relationships between these essential constituencies. On-going training of both development staff and faculty focused on alumni and grateful patient fundraising will be continuous and evolving elements of the job in partnership with the AVP.

This position actively manages a portfolio of prospective donors capable of making gifts of $100,000 or more with a focus on $1,000,000-plus giving that benefit the OSUWMC and College of Medicine campaign priorities. Preparation for the solicitation will include creative and strategic utilization of resources to determine the prospective donor’s capacity for giving, build their interest, raise their sights, sustain their engagement and close a gift. Success in the position will be guided by annual metrics include numbers of monthly meetings, solicitations, gift commitments, and dollars raised. The Executive Director will strategically leverage Central resources including: prospect development, gift planning, regional development officers, donor experience, principal gifts, foundation relations and corporate relations to help accomplish fundraising goals for OSUWMC and the College of Medicine.

Duties and Responsibilities

95% – Leads a team of development professionals to meet the alumni association, university and Wexner Medical Center fundraising goals by identifying, securing and maximizing opportunities to align prospective donor interests and passions with institutional priorities. Leverages university resources as appropriate to help advance fundraising goals and carries own portfolio of prospects and donors. Creates and fosters effective strategic partnerships with Advancement leadership across every college and specialty unit at the university.  Sets direction and strategy for the customized fundraiser training program and facilitates the growth of an internal Advancement staffing pipeline. Hires, trains, and supervises staff; establishes and monitors goals, provides performance feedback and coaching, and supports professional development; completes annual performance management procedures; manages performance issues; is responsible for using independent, consistent and fair judgement in exercising authority; develops procedures, assigns and prioritizes work, and ensures that the resources as needed to accomplish work are provided.

5% – Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Metrics and Collaboration

The annual performance of all fundraisers at Ohio State is measured by the number of qualifications, cultivations, solicitations and commitments/dollars raised the individual accrues over each fiscal year.  Each fundraiser may have different expectations regarding these figures based upon, but not limited to, their experience level, unit size, prospect portfolio, past performance, etc.  Goal setting is done with the individual’s manager prior to each fiscal year to assure transparency, consistency, and alignment.

All fundraisers at Ohio State are encouraged and expected to collaborate with their colleagues across the institution and can be counted as ‘Secondary’ on a gift in the solicitation, commitment and dollars raised phases of the development cycle.  A secondary fundraiser can be considered when a team is working on a multi-unit gift, the fundraiser is a subject matter expert in an area critical to the solicitation or a fundraiser has a pre-existing, meaningful relationship with the donor and their participation helps move the gift forward.

Performance Objectives

First month

  • Become familiar with the overall structure, resources, and priorities of the team.
  •  Develop an understanding of campaign/capital funding priorities for the College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center.
  • Build relationships with central Advancement and medical center partners including prospect development, estate and gift planning, corporate relations, donor relations, foundation relations, development communications, events and annual giving.

First 2-3 months

  • Become familiar with the overall structure, resources, and priorities of the team.

First 12 months

  • Continue building a portfolio of qualified prospects.
  • Move the prospects through the donor engagement process.
  • Continue working towards meeting team and individual performance goals/metrics by soliciting and closing major gifts.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination education/experience.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant experience with at least four (4) years of professional fundraising experience (building relationships towards philanthropic end through making calls, conducting face-to-face appointments, creating and presenting proposals, closing gifts) and two (2) years of related experience in marketing, sales, public relations, financial advisement, account management or related field with emphasis on donor cultivation, solicitation and relationship cultivation of individuals/businesses.
  • Three (3) years of management experience.

Chief Advancement Officer – Arts & Sciences

What You’ll be Doing and Why it Matters

The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) for the College of Arts and Sciences serves as the head fundraiser for the university’s largest academic unit, leading all development, alumni relations and donor experience activities. The CAO creates and leads the strategy to identify, develop and maintain a robust pipeline of donors to the college through strategic direction of a large team of experienced professionals.

The CAO will be charged with managing their own portfolio of major and principal level prospects and growing the college’s annual fund-raising goal ($67M in FY24) to help fulfill strategic needs and goals of the college. The college has a passionate alumni community and the alumni relations work spans a population of over 200,000 living alumni.

The CAO will create partnerships with college leadership to advance the culture of philanthropy among college chairs and directors, faculty and staff. Additionally, they will build effective relationships with central Advancement leadership to facilitate the fundraising agenda. Utilizing these relationships, they will provide counsel and guidance to align college strategies and priorities to compelling fundraising opportunities with high-impact prospects. The CAO will play a pivotal role in bringing the college across the finish line for the current Time and Change campaign.

50% – Fundraising and Engagement Leadership

Provides leadership and creates the strategy to identify and develop a robust pipeline of donors; supervises and directs development professionals across multiple academic areas; conducts prospect strategy sessions; advocates for area with regard to resources in order to accomplish goals; works to build cohesiveness within advancement and across units to enhance overall fundraising for Ohio State. Cultivates strong bonds with alumni, donors and volunteers; oversees the development and management of all alumni events and activities; recruits, trains and inspires alumni leaders and volunteers; engages students to establish a foundation of support and loyalty to the College of Arts and Sciences for future development opportunities beyond graduation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Successful experience with personal solicitation of donors and a strong track record of closing major gifts is ideal. Director of Development, Major Giving (College of Business)

Join a team of dynamic and collaborative fundraising professionals working to support Ohio University! The Director of Development, Major Giving will be a key liaison to the nationally ranked Ohio University College of Business. The incumbent will work with the Senior Director of Development in support of the Dean, center directors, and faculty to develop strategic plans meant to engage donors and prospective supporters and grow the major gift pipeline for the college.

General position overview:
The Director of Development will serve as a major gifts officer on behalf of Ohio University for the colleges/units and for University Advancement. The successful candidate will be responsible for the identification of potential major-gift donors; identify and engage regional development markets in collaboration with development colleagues; initiate first alumni contact for deans, faculty and other administrators; maintain development travel schedules; coordinate with all development staff and gift stewardship activities with donor relations; work closely with University Advancement’s CFR office, Gift Planning office, and Annual Giving office on strategies for donors related to those gift vehicles; coordinate strategic development events; the development of a major gifts pipeline to build a qualified prospect base for the college/unit; serve as liaison between the faculty, staff, students and potential supporters (individuals, corporations and foundations); serve as liaison among the faculty and staff of the assigned unit(s) and/or project(s), and the Office of the Vice President for Advancement.

Primary responsibilities include:
1. Serve as the chief development officer for designated colleges/units by managing and meeting priorities and goals that coincide with strategic plans as defined by University Advancement and the college/unit. (25% of time)
2. Identify constituents that may provide private support to Ohio University while acting as fundraiser/strategist/advisor for academic unit(s) and/or project(s) and secure dollar commitment at a level established for said units. (20% of time)
3. Work collaboratively with the CFR, gift planning, annual giving, and major giving staff as needed to verify, cultivate and solicit constituents for major gifts for the university and work with appropriate campus offices to plan implement and oversee stewardship programs. (20% of time)
4. Plan, implement and coordinate cultivation activities for prospects and donors. Initiate, develop and coordinate delivery of proposals to prospective supporters. (20% of time)
5. Interface with the external relations agents (i.e. Alumni Relations, Development, Deans, and individual unit/project personnel) to coordinate events and activities involving alumni in the pursuit of identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gift prospects. (15% of time)

LOCATION and TRAVEL:
– University Advancement values in person collaboration and relationship building and therefore takes a hybrid approach that combines remote and in-office work days across the division. Unless traveling on university business, staff, including this position, work onsite multiple days per week. The Director will work from the Athens, Ohio and Dublin, Ohio campuses and may have the option to participate in the unit’s hybrid approach, upon approval.
– The Director must have the ability and willingness to travel frequently.

Salary and Benefits:
The full salary range for pay grade 19 is $68,299 to $117,127. The target hiring salary for this position is $68,299 to $80,252. Salary negotiated at the time of offer will be commensurate with education and experience while also considering internal equity. Senior Director of Development, Major Giving (College of Engineering)

General position overview:
The Senior Director of Development will serve as the chief major gifts officer on behalf of assigned Ohio University colleges/units and for University Advancement. The successful candidate will be responsible for the identification of potential major-gift donors; identify and engage regional development markets in collaboration with development colleagues; initiate first alumni contact for the dean, faculty and other administrators; maintain development travel schedules; coordinate with all development staff and gift stewardship activities with donor relations; work closely with University Advancement’s Corporate and Foundation Relations, Gift Planning, Annual Giving, and other Development teams on strategies for donors related to those gift vehicles; coordinate strategic development events; the development of a major gifts pipeline to build a qualified prospect base for colleges/units; serve as liaison between the faculty, staff, students and potential supporters (individuals, corporations and foundations); and manage relationships with the faculty and staff of the assigned unit(s) and/or project(s), and the Office of the Vice President for Advancement.

Primary responsibilities:
1. Serve as the chief development officer and Advancement strategist for designated colleges/units by managing and meeting priorities and goals that coincide with strategic plans as defined by University Advancement and the college/unit. (25% of time)
2. Identify, cultivate and manage relationships with constituents who may provide private support to Ohio University while acting as fundraiser/strategist/advisor for academic unit(s) and/or project(s) and secure dollar commitment at a level established for said units. (20% of time)
3. Work collaboratively with the corporate and foundation relations, gift planning, annual giving and major giving staff as needed to verify, cultivate and solicit constituents for major gifts for the university and work with appropriate campus offices to plan implement and oversee stewardship programs. (20% of time)
4. Develop, oversee, and support the implementation of cultivation activities for prospects and donors. Initiate, develop and coordinate delivery of proposals to prospective supporters. (20% of time)
5. Manage relationships with the external relations agents (i.e. Alumni Relations, Development, Deans, and individual unit/project personnel) to coordinate events and activities involving alumni in the pursuit of identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gift prospects. (15% of time)

The Senior Director may supervise a small number of FTE’s doing similar work.

LOCATION and TRAVEL:
– University Advancement values in person collaboration and relationship building and therefore takes a hybrid approach that combines remote and in-office work days across the division. Unless traveling on university business, staff, including this position, work onsite multiple days per week. The Senior Director will work from the Athens, Ohio campus and may have the option to participate in the unit’s hybrid approach, upon approval.

Individual Giving Officer

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is seeking a mission-minded Associate to join us as a full-time (37.5 Hours) Individual Giving Officer with a salary range of $65,000 – $70,000. Must reside in Ohio prior to start date. 

SUMMARY

The Individual Giving Officer is responsible for the strategic development and management of an effective annual giving program, inclusive of monthly donors, federated giving, patient giving, and staff giving. The Individual Giving Officer plays a central role in a collaborative, forward-thinking development culture that facilitates efforts between Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio (PPGOH) and annual fund donors. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Philanthropy and in collaboration with the Development Operations and Marketing and Communications teams, the Individual Giving Officer leads the annual giving strategy by identifying funding sources for renewed, increased, and new support, as well as develops and implements strategies for annual giving identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. This position requires significant experience in project management, segmentation, tracking and understanding data performance analytics, and strategy development.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior experience in leading annual giving work. Other professional writing experience may be considered in lieu of previous fundraising experience.

  • Managing a portfolio of top Annual Fund donors
  • Building a comprehensive plan to grow revenue of online only donors.

  • Create and monitor annual giving goals including retention, upgrades, and acquisitions. Track and analyze performance of entire annual fund and by key segments monthly to ensure goals are being met, revising strategy and tactics when necessary.
  • Develop and oversee annual giving budget to ensure appropriate use of resources.
  • Design and coordinate all annual fund donor communications, including direct mail solicitations and digital fundraising, inclusive of email solicitations, website, and text-to-give campaigns. Special focus should include working with Donor Engagement Officer to implement targeted stewardship plan for monthly donors.
  • Support planning and execution of local and statewide campaigns, as needed, and monitor PPGOH’s Fearless Fundraiser landing page to ensure quick follow-up and support.
  • Build and implement effective plans to bring back lapsed donors and deepen relationships with new donors, including specific goals, objectives, timelines, and evaluation.
  • Implement procedures to maintain strong donor relations and increase organization and efficiency through utilization of a donor database, building of annual fund best practices, and standard operating procedures for all annual fund activities.
  • Consistently stay on top of annual giving trends as well as pilot, test, and evaluate the effectiveness of new annual giving strategies, pivoting and building, where needed.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Development department by performing all other duties, as assigned.

Donor Engagement Officer

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is seeking a mission-minded Associates to join us as a a full-time (37.5 hours per week) Donor Engagement Officer with a salary range of $70,000 – $75,000. Must live in Ohio prior to start date. 

SUMMARY

The Donor Engagement Officer will be a key member of the Development team and highly involved in all aspects of donor engagement and stewardship for Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio.  This position is responsible for leading the organization’s signature fundraising events, regional donor salons, house party strategy, and third-party fundraisers. Additionally, this position will serve as primary liaison to Community Leadership Councils in key donor regions to support their local fundraising efforts. The Engagement Officer will design, manage, and implement the donor stewardship programs at Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio. While part of the Development team, this position works closely with the Marketing and Communications team, the Advocacy team, volunteers, and other departments to coordinate and organize engagement activity.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead the planning, organizing, and implementation of several large-scale signature fundraising events, regional donor salons, and misc. engagement and stewardship events. This includes driving the strategic vision, creating event plans, coordinating vendors, ensuring budget goals for both expenses and revenue are met, ensuring all necessary event data is entered and tracked in database in timely manner, managing event communications, and supporting host committees.
  • Cultivate existing and future Community Leadership Councils to grow their fundraising efforts in key target regions.
  • Lead and support all stewardship and engagement efforts of the Development Department, including quarterly Team Call Days, month of stewardship ThankView activities, and communications such as standard and personalized impact reports, family legacy books, holiday cards, the donor content for the quarterly newsletters and annual report, and more. As part of this work, Engagement Officer will work with Individual Giving Officer to develop a targeted stewardship program for donors giving monthly.
  • Lead the development department’s community presence through tabling at PPGOH’s c3 and c4 events and events hosted by like-minded organizations.
  • Manage and expand fundraising volunteer opportunities for PPGOH, including identifying, building, supporting, and serving as a primary liaison for PPGOH affinity groups, and work with other departments to identify, share, and enhance fundraising volunteer engagement opportunities in C3 and C4 work.

Advancement Manager, Partnerships

Some of the specific responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

·  Develop and implement best practice solicitations and relationship building of local corporate, foundation and community organizations. Develop and maintain knowledge of corporate and community giving interests, funding opportunities and trends.

·  Expand The Arboretum’s partnership portfolio by cultivating and stewarding long term relationships including philanthropic support from new corporate, foundation and community partners.
