SUMMARY: The Assistant Director provides leadership in research of prospects, portfolio hygiene and development, and serves as lead on data improvement projects. He/she plays a key role in the Division of Institutional Advancement as we are charged with securing six figure gifts as well as developing the pipeline for the University’s next campaign. He/She will carry on the important work of identifying high potential prospects, analyzing current donors and recommending strategies for new prospects as well as strategies for initiating new opportunities with existing donors and prospects. This position reports to the Executive Director, Advancement Services.

Responsibilities include:

  • Research and analyze new high net worth donor prospects and new opportunities with existing donors with a primary focus on Major Gifts.
  • Conduct research and prepare briefing materials with emphasis on constituents’ wealth, interests, philanthropy and relationships.
  • Visually map relationships among donors and prospects to help identify opportunities for Otterbein to maximize fundraising potential.
  • Assess wealth (batch and individuals) using software common to the industry such as Donor Search.
  • Analyze results of wealth and philanthropy screenings of donor database to identify those with potential to make larger gifts.
  • Proactively identify and research new prospects from successful organizations and key industries who may have interests which align with campaigns.
  • Act as lead for data improvement projects (employment information, endowment coding, etc.
  • Serve as primary relationship lead with Advancement Services Vendors, including but not limited to LexisNexis, VRC, and DonorSearch
  • Research new donors of $1K+ and make recommendations regarding portfolio management and cultivation and stewardship plans.
  • Review prospect pools and make recommendations to improve portfolio hygiene by scrubbing pools to maintain focus on top prospects.

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Executive Director, Advancement Services. the Advancement Services Associate is responsible for performing a variety of financial, administrative and clerical duties in a fast-paced environment in support of the Executive Director, and the Assistant Director of Advancement Services. Primary duties also include assisting with gift administration and processing gifts on a rotating basis with Gift Admin and Bio Records Specialist. Exercises a high degree of independence with respect to performance of duties needed to effectively manage office operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work with the Executive Director to maintain calendar, coordinate meetings, and keep abreast of project status using the project management software Trello.
  • Keep abreast of tasks and manage changing priorities in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

PURPOSE OF JOB

The Development Manager is responsible for front-line fundraising, including identification, cultivation and stewardship of annual giving and select major giving donors. This position will also be assigned special projects in conjunction with fundraising efforts, such as qualifying planned giving prospects, and will be tasked with special event fundraising including management of the event committee. They will also supervise the Development Assistant and work closely with the Development Director to support lead generation, prospect discovery and manage donor relationships.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-Manages portfolio and serves as gift officer for annual gifts, event donors and select major gift prospects.
-Develops face-to-face cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for annual donors identified through annual giving pipeline.
-Serves as primary fundraiser for annual fundraising event and primary liaison to event committee including creation and implementation of strategic and proactive fundraising materials, communications, etc.
-Supports donor journey from cultivation through stewardship and again including responsibility for donor reports when necessary and supporting the Donor Relations team’s stewardship efforts.
-Assists in the execution of fundraising and stewardship events and assists in preparing, mailing and tracking all correspondence, invitations and solicitations. Supports these events as necessary including primary ownership as well as tactical support. Communicates details to internal and external customers.
-Responsible for donor communication and correspondence including proposal for leadership and major gifts and in some cases, website, social media and newsletters.
-Supports production and distribution of donor newsletters, annual reports, event invitations and other mailings.
-Maintains contact reports and action items and ensures accuracy for contact updates for their portfolio work and any such items assigned by the Development Director.
-Serves as back-up to accurately input confidential gift information into Raiser’s Edge software during busy giving seasons.
-Supervises Development Assistant by setting individual performance measurements, reinforcing individual accountability.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

-Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required.
-At least 5 years’ experience in fundraising, development, sales or similar experience; experience as a front-line fundraiser preferred.
-Experience with grant writing, event management and administration a plus.
-Strong organization and analytical skills. Coordinates and manages multiple tasks, anticipates needs and gives attention to detail.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to tailor communications with volunteers, donors, Library customers, community, colleagues, and diverse audiences.

Joining the College of Nursing during an exciting time as we open our new nursing building, Heminger Hall in the summer and fulfill an ambitious campaign goal that includes an exciting President led initiative to create pathways to eliminate undergraduate debt through the Scarlet and Gray Advantage program.  The Director of Development will understand the mission, needs and value proposition of the college and build relationships with prospective donors to increase philanthropic support. Donors such as alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations will be identified by listening for opportunities to align their interests and passions with opportunities to propel the work of nurse scientists, students, faculty, staff and college leadership forward and invest in priority projects.

 

The aim of the role is to actively manage a portfolio of prospective donors to be asked for major gifts. Preparation for the “ask” will include creative and strategic utilization of resources to determine the prospective donor’s capacity for giving, build their interest, raise their sights, sustain their engagement, and obtain philanthropic support. Success in the position will be guided by annual metrics such as number of monthly meetings, number of solicitations made, number of gift commitments, number of qualifications and dollars raised. First 2-6 months

First 6-12 months

Continue building a portfolio of qualified prospects. Move the prospects through the donor engagement process. Continue working towards meeting team and individual performance goals/metrics by soliciting and closing major gifts.

Summary

The aim of the role is to actively manage a portfolio of prospective donors to be asked for gifts typically up to $99,000 and to build a pipeline of major gift donors for the future. Preparation for the “ask” will include creative and strategic utilization of resources to determine the prospective donor’s capacity for giving, build their interest, raise their sights, sustain their engagement and obtain a gift. In addition, this role supports the operations of CFAES’s annual giving activities. This role manages a range of administrative operations including implementing, coordinating and monitoring annual giving projects and interacting with internal and external constituents. The Assistant Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the personal cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors, specifically focusing on reunion and class leader fundraising initiatives, student philanthropy, and text message and video communications. This position works very closely with volunteer leadership and partners with other Advancement staff to solicit contributions from and increase engagement of Ohio Wesleyan alumni. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to directly solicit gifts, work with volunteers, and to handle confidential information with discretion. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, be highly motivated, and take a proactive approach to their work.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reunion/Class Management (65%):

  • In partnership with Alumni Relations, recruit, train, and manage fundraising volunteers for five class reunion programs and approximately 21 non-reunion classes.

Text Message and Video/Other (15%):

  • In partnership with University Advancement colleagues, develops and administers text message solicitation and video communications strategies as part of the comprehensive annual giving communications plan.
  • Effectively communicate the results of contacts to colleagues as appropriate and utilize Raiser’s Edge to document call/meeting reports and other relevant information.

Director, Stewardship & Constituent Engagement (College of Vet Med)

The Director, Stewardship & Constituent Engagement (Director) oversees all donor relations and stewardship functions for the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) and establishes and ensures development and implementation of a comprehensive donor recognition plan for the college with the goal of driving donor satisfaction and continued giving.

The Director reports to the Chief Advancement Officer and oversees an Assistant Director as part of a dynamic, growing CVM Advancement team. The position provides oversight of alumni engagement, helping to set immediate and long-range strategies for engaging and building relationships with the college’s alumni and current students. There is a strong emphasis on collaboration with university and college partners on individualized stewardship plans that deepen relationships with principal gift donors. Responsibilities also include working closely with the college’s finance leader and other senior leadership to ensure fiscal stewardship of all college development funds. As part of the college’s Advancement leadership team, the Director contributes to setting goals, defining priorities and carrying out short- and long-term plans and special projects that focus on advancing the College.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a strategic and critical thinker and demonstrate high proficiency and comfort level in the following areas:  data and analytics, writing, creative thinking, customer service and ability to work with a diverse population. They will have experience building collaborative relationships and strong communication skills. Responsible for using independent, consistent and fair judgement in exercising authority, develops procedures, assigns and prioritizes work, and ensures that the resources needed to accomplish work are provided.

35% Donor Recognition and Acknowledgment

Oversees all donor acknowledgement, engagement, recognition, and reporting initiatives, including overseeing all impact and endowment reporting, small recognition events, and creation of custom impact pieces for donors. Provides input and support for the execution and vision for annual large signature stewardship event, Evening of Gratitude. Ensures that all of the programming for stewardship and donor relations is executed in a creative and strategic way. Works collaboratively with development officers in creating individualized stewardship plans and works in partnership with advancement colleagues to implement communication around transformational gift recognition. Creates opportunities for donors to experience and monitor the impact of their philanthropy and creates of custom impact pieces for donors. Ensures that all of the programming for stewardship and donor relations is executed in a creative and strategic way. Supervises the college’s gift acknowledgement processes and serves as the main contact with central Advancement as it pertains to capital projects and naming initiatives.

20% Fund Management and Supervision

Serves as the senior team member charged with the management and supervision of all endowment and current use funds in the CVM. Partners with central Advancement and works closely with the college’s lead finance officer and college leadership to steward development funds at the leadership level as well as the department level and review funds on a regular basis. Provides any needed oversight of scholarship funds. Oversees financial stewardship of all major gifts to the college including gift agreement and endowment administration, annual fund audits, financial reporting, and analysis of data to create, develop and implement fund management strategy.
