AFP Planning to Keep Your Donors Workshop (and Raise More Money!)

The AFP Central Ohio Chapter is offering its members a unique hands-on opportunity to create a game plan for your development department.

On June 22 the Chapter will present the newest workshop designed by AFP International to get to the heart of a critical fundraising issue: retaining your donors. The workshop is based on data collected via the Fundraising Effectiveness Project (FEP), an annual survey of gains and losses of donors and gifts.

The latest FEP results show that nonprofits are losing nearly as many donors as they gain each year!

Building a sustainable development program means you need to acquire donors and KEEP them. This workshop will provide you with a database management simulation and comparative benchmark statistics based on organizational budgets, location, staff size, sector, and geographic region. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a framework to develop and use metrics to analyze the overall performance of your development office.

To take full advantage of this workshop, there is advance “homework.” Those who register by the June 6 will receive a data input form to complete in advance. Using this form during the workshop, you will create and take with you up to eight  personalized analyses specific to your organization that you can review with your CEO and development team.

Space is limited to 40 participants so don’t delay – sign up today!

Note: this opportunity is designed only for those who will be active participants in the pre-workshop assignment and the hands-on exercises.

Who Should Attend

Fundraising professionals at the intermediate and advanced levels, who have responsibility for donor cultivation and stewardship, are encouraged to attend. We highly recommend that you register in TEAMS of two, though you may attend alone. The “team” must have at least one AFP member. The other teammate should be someone who is very familiar with your data.  Individual participants must be AFP members.

An absolute maximum of 20 teams or 40 people will be accepted. If you are interested in having more than two people attend, please register your team by the deadline and then email us at [email protected] with your request. If any of the 40 spaces are not reserved we will accommodate your additional participants.

What to expect

For the workshop, bring a laptop device with Wi-Fi access so you can participate in the hands-on interactive exercises. You will also be required in advance of the workshop to provide some historical fundraising statistics for your organization, due no later than June 17.

This workshop is applicable for 4.0 points of CFRE credit. Workshop instructor is Lori Hunter Overmyer, MBA, CFRE, a member of the AFP Task Force that developed this module and a certified workshop instructor.

This is the first time AFP Central Ohio has offered this interactive training.

Registration fee is only $30/per participant with the Central Ohio Chapter underwriting all of the remaining costs to offer this workshop.

Registration closes June 6, (or earlier) when the 40 slots are reserved.

“The Fundraising Effectiveness Project has provided us with a powerful analytical tool – an objective, data-driven report that points to our fundraising strengths and clearly identifies areas of potential growth.  We have been able to clearly identify opportunities for growth at CASA of Franklin County that we suspected were available to us, and the FEP report has given us solid empirical evidence.

I encourage anyone involved with development data and analytics – and anyone looking for a true measure of performance – to attend this workshop.  You’ll leave with a series of invaluable reports and strategies that can be readily shared with your colleagues, supervisors, and board members.”
